The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Tanya Otsuka to be a member of the National Credit Union Administration board, replacing Rodney Hood as a member of the panel.
Once she is sworn in, Democrats will have control of the agency board. Otsuka is a Democrat, as is board Chairman Todd Harper. That will leave board Vice Chairman Kyle Hauptman as the lone Republican.
Otsuka was confirmed by voice vote. The Senate confirmed a long list of nominees to various agencies before leaving Washington until next year.
Otsuka has worked on credit union and banking issues since March 2020 as a staff member on the Senate Banking Committee. Hauptman served as a Republican staffer on that committee before being nominated as a member of the NCUA board. Harper is a former House staff member.
Before joining the Banking Committee, Otsuka was a staff attorney and counsel at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Otsuka earned her J.D. from Boston College Law School and her B.A. from the University of Virginia. She is originally from Woodbridge, Virginia and is a member of the Virginia Bar.
